Inspirational quote

Over on the Simon says stamp and show there is a challenge to create something with a quote. This can be any kind of quote, from movie quotes, to something a family member always says, a qoute on a stamp, or a quote you find insirational. Since I have been meaning to work more with quotes in my art journal, I felt I would try and work with this.

In searching for a way to deal with a burn out I have taken up art journalling as a tool to get clarity in my mind about the things I do and don't do. Things that are good and things that need changing. As a part of that process perfection and imperfection have lately been on my mind. So I choose a quote about this subject, that spoke to me. As, in real life, I am an IT engineer.

"As machines become more and more efficient and perfect, so it will become clear that imperfection is the greatness of man." Ernst Fisher.

This quote speaks to me on so many different levels, that I cannot begin to tell you. I did however try to translate all those layers into my journal page, wich I build up out of many, many layers, most of wich aren't even visible anymore.
I choose a picture of Leonardo DaVinci as a representative of the time where science and art were intertwined and the world of knowledge was a far smaller one then it is today. The gears are a representative of the machine as time progressed, with a human heart at it's centre core.

And because I was having such fun with quotes I made another journal page with a quote by Salvador Dali: "Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it.".

Thank you for watching, and should you have any questions, tips or remarks, please leave a comment below.

  2. Monique...both of your sets of art journal pages are stunning! The Dali one is very "artsy" and very much has a Dali feeling. I particularly love your first pages because I am such a lover of vintage! :) The pages are wonderfully laid out. I love all of the textural patterns of gears and the mechanical feeling. It is perfect for your sentiment. I also really like the sweet vintage photograph you have included on your pages. It reminds us of man's vulnerability and as your sentiment suggests, our imperfections...even with the perfect little being. Thanks so much for sharing your art with us at Simon Says Stamp and Show. <3 Candy
