The quote "The soul becomes dyed with the color of it's thoughts" by Marcus Aurelius has been sitting in my little black book for quite some time now. Today I was looking for something to go with my new art journal page and I came across it again. I felt it was really appropriate for this page with all of it's colors.
I did make some progress shots while working on this page, though I forgot to make them during the first part. Still plenty of photo's to show you.
I only started making photo's when I had the outline of the face painted onto the background.
I wanted it all to stay fairly transparant as I loved the colors and texture going on in the background.
I did feel it needed something extra at this point and printed and sealed some butterflies.
Stuck them down on the page. I like how they seem to be flying toward this opening in the sky.
Started defining the face a bit more.
I find I have difficulty keeping my distance and seeing everything in the correct proportions when working so close to a page. With a canvas on an easel I can always take a step back and just stare at a painting for a while. Then I remembered I had this old paint storage box with an easel attached, so I put it on there.
Added some more definition to the girl and the butterflies and then took a text stamp randomly to the page to add texture. I like how this contrasts with the handwritten text in the background.
I still felt the butterflies weren't standing out the way I wanted to.
So I outlined them with white a white gel pen.
Added some highlights to her hair and face.
And added the quote.
I think she turned out really sweet and colorful and it makes me happy just to look at all the colors.
Thank you all for watching and I wish you a wonderful weekend.
