It's the little things - art jounal page

Just a quick post today, because the sun has been shining all day and I have been working in the garden. So I am now really sore and my arms are all scratched and bruised from the rozes I pruned. I'm also very tired, but a good tired for a change. I think I may even sleep well tonight.

Anyway, I just wanted to share a journal page with you today. Still practicing my faces, but I feel I'm now getting to a point where I can take it all to a canvas, we'll see.

It's a bit difficult to photograph this page, because I treated it with a glossy varnish. It looks great in person, but on a photo not so much. I took the photo's outside, so the lighting is somewhat better compared to taking them in the house.

I doodled a bit on this page and added some pictures. The tiny ballerina shoes were my daughters. They are so cute. I used the photo's as a guide for the color scheme of the drawing. The drawing was all done with soft pastels. A bit difficult at certain points, because they were actually way to thick for the finer details. The doodles were done with a white gel pen, over the glossy varnish.

These are some pictures taken inside the house. The colors are a bit warmer in these photo's and more true to the actual page.

It's a pity the collaged paper under her nose and mouth came sort off lose, but there is nothing I can do about that. I still like how she turned out, although I do seem to make rather sad faces... note to self, must try to make a smiling face sometime.

Specially since, I'm delighted to say, I was selected as part of the top 3 over at the Simon says stamp and show blog for the color challenge with my art journal page "a thousand faces".

That's it from me for now, I'm off to go and soak in the bath tub and hope my muscles will start to cooperate with me again.
Thank you for watching and have a wonderful weekend.

I'm posting this page to:

  1. Hi Monique: I really love this. You say "sad". to me, the face and expression looks "pensive" and "really quizzical." You know, I found today I was writing about darkness on my blog and thought "ouch!" but it was there in the art...so be it. If this is your "you" don't change...it just is!!! I love it, I bet lots of others will give you the same reinforcement. btw, who said we have to be "happy" looking anyway! Maybe it's cuz you are in pain from the roses pricks that the face is getting to you! lol (sorry) Seriously, if you want to do happy faces - do them. I think she is beautiful! I love the intensity, the colors and the shape of her mouth. She is mona lisa-ish in her look. The non perfection is somehow perfect! Lovies, Samara
